What can a few extra yards off the tee mean for your game? For some players, more yardage can make par-5s reachable for the first time. Or maybe it enables you to hit a shorter iron to the green on a par-4, creating more birdie opportunities. Every player can appreciate the benefits of going longer off the teebut actually appropriating those yard gains are the hard part. Here it is TheStack comes into play.

TheStack is billed as a revolutionary swing speed trainer. Co-founded by biomechanist Dr. Sasho MacKenzie and engineer Ping Marty JertsonTheStack System helps players increase their swing speed and distance with a training regimen that is tailored to your personal level.

Matt Fitzpatrick was the first high-profile pro to credit TheStack with his significant distance gains when he mentioned his training after his US Open win at The Country Club in 2022.

“I’ve been (using TheStack) religiously week after week,” he said. “It’s like going to the gym basically. It’s like a training program. I’ll be honest, it’s done wonders.”

Ever since Fitzpatrick showed off his newfound long-bombing skills, TheStack’s popularity has only grown, and I was interested in trying out just how effective the system could be. Turns out I married the perfect pig. My husband, Paul, is a club professional with a current handicap index of +0.4. As his index shows, his all-around game is excellent, but he always felt he wasn’t getting the most out of his driver. At 6’3″ and 220 lbs., Paul’s fellow pros are often surprised that he doesn’t regularly launch that 300+ yard drive. Instead, Paul’s carry distance is closer to 240 yards, which, depending on the spin, can stretch to 270 in the right conditions. But still – for a competitive player like Paul, an extra 10 or so yards would be extremely significant. At local events, he’s routinely pushed around by his peers, and attempts to reverse his drive to gain more yards resulted in a more erratic and undesirable game. So the idea of keeping the pace he has, training with TheStack and still adding yards was very appealing.

Radar Stack launch monitor

Bluetooth Radar for Stack Training The Stack Radar is a great multi-purpose radar that Bluetooth connects directly to TheStack app for the smoothest training experience. Our PGA and LPGA Tour players love TheStack radar for its portability and size. Pick up swing speed without hitting the ball – perfect for Stack Speed Training! Place the Stack behind you on the range or course to measure ball speed: Swing speed and ball speed. Calculates an estimated carry distance and shock factor. Works great both indoors and outdoors. Bluetooth connection exclusively with TheStack App Set the activation speed threshold to 25, 35, 45 or 55 mph! Avoid false triggers due to a quick flashback. Stack Radar includes a great protective pouch for storage in your golf bag and for travel. Are you a current Stacker looking to improve? Explore our Launch Monitor trading program here.

Paul is also a great test subject for TheStack because he’s already using fully custom equipment and has regular access to a TrackMan, so he’s intimately familiar with his personal stats in areas like spin, ball speed, etc. In short, whatever he earns BEN collection from TheStack will be from hardware and training only.

“With my launch angle and my spin speed, if I had 10 or 15 mph more, the ball would just stay in the air longer,” Paul told me. “So this is an experiment to see if I can gain any speed.”

Part of the appeal of TheStack is that it requires a relatively low commitment. When the components arrived—TheStack itself, the weights, and the radar launch monitor—all Paul had to do was download the app and connect the radar device to his iPhone via Bluetooth. Then, it was time to complete the core session, which is what ultimately determined the rest of his training schedule.

The basic session starts with moving with the player’s current driver without hitting the ball. (This reminds me of another important note: none of the workouts require hitting the ball, just swinging! So you can do these sessions indoors or outdoors.) The app will walk you through each part of the basic session with the requirements of what weights to use and how many swings to do. The data is automatically recorded in the application. For Paul, the entire session took less than 15 minutes of swinging.

Paul’s initial swing speed reading was 87 mph, so that will be the number we will continually look to improve as his training program progresses. His current schedule consists of swing sessions almost every two to three days. The app reminds you when to finish a session and when to rest. Paul expects his swing speed ride to last a year – or maybe even longer! I plan to document his progress here as he works his way through the “stages” of the application, with check-ins every two months.

Paul is definitely feeling optimistic about the process so far, especially after completing his first training session. According to the app, his swing speed has already increased to 92 from 87 – quite a jump! Can it reach 100 by the end of the year? Stay tuned!
