Summer signing Federico Chiesa has revealed it was “amazing” to play at Anfield after making his Liverpool debut at home against Bournemouth.
The Italian international came on as a second-half substitute the reds are already 3-0 after Luis DÃaz’s brace and Darwin Núñez’s first goal of the season, playing 18 minutes after bowing out at his club Milan in the Champions League.
Chiesa hit the woodwork from an offside position after his introduction and has the likes of Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo to compete for minutes under manager Arne Slot.
Asked by Liverpool website if Anfield lived up to his expectations, Chiesa said: “Yes, yes, yes, it did! Hearing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ for the first time off the bench, it was amazing.
“It was also amazing against Nottingham Forest, but unfortunately we lost, but today was really amazing. I enjoyed everything.
“I saw the ball bounce and thought, ‘Why not?’ I was a bit unlucky then I hit the post but I was offside and I wanted to help the team, run for the team and that’s what I’m here for.
“I think I played seven minutes in Milan, I didn’t play too much but I was very, very happy to make my debut in Milan and today I just had to be ready and when the coach told me to come into the game I was so happy and so relieved because he wanted to play here at Anfield.”
Liverpool are next in action on Wednesday when they face West Ham United at home in the Carabao Cup and Chiesa says he is ready to feature more if Slot gives him the chance.
He added: “Yes, I’m training for it, I’m training harder, faster, I’m training to be ready to play, but it depends on the manager and when he wants me to play and put me on, I just have to be ready and play.”
