Another player from the Australian National Cricket Team has gone down with an injury, as Cricket Australia (CA) confirmed that 30-year-old left-arm spinner Ben Dwarshuis has a “suspected pectoral strain”.
Ben Dwarshuis finally made his ODI debut for Australia after playing three T20Is for the side. He took his debut cap at Trent Bridge in Nottingham on Thursday, September 19.
After several Aussie pacers were injured and ruled out of the five-match ODI series against England, Ben Dwarshuis’ debut opportunity arrived. Nathan Ellis is out with a hamstring injury and Riley Meredith is out with side pain. Xavier Bartlett sustained a side strain, as did Spencer Johnson, while Josh Hazlewood suffered a calf problem.
Also, Mitchell Starc missed his first ODI due to illness and Pat Cummins was ruled out of the tour focusing on strength and conditioning. Due to all these issues, 19-year-old Mahli Beardman was brought in as a substitute and Cooper Connolly was retained in the England ODIs alongside Ben Dwarshuis.

Earlier, speaking after the toss defeat, Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh said the Australian team is in a good place despite the injury blow and the players are ready to go. He elaborated:
“We wanted to have a cuppa. The squad is good. It’s ready to go today. Benny Dwarcius makes his debut. The main thing is teaching the importance of winning and enjoying playing in front of the crowd. He’s an incredible team player. The trajectory of his career over the last few years It was unbelievable (Zampa talking about playing his 100th ODI).”
It should be noted that Australia hit England for 315 in 49.4 overs after being invited to bowl for the first time. Spinners Marnus Labuschagne and Adam Zampa emerged as the top performers with three-wicket hauls. They were now aiming to chase down the target to take a 1-0 lead in the ongoing five-match ODI series and start the series against the Three Lions on a high note.
