The data also claimed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will announce the retention rules for the Right to Match (RTM) in the next few days. There is some speculation as to whether the team’s governing body will allow the franchises to be retained.
With IPL 2025 set for mega auction, there are reports claiming that BCCI will allow franchises to retain 6 players along with three RTMs. Although there is no official confirmation, many are of the same opinion.
But as the dates for the 2025 edition come out with the BCCI deciding to drop its retention policy, franchises will be eager to plan their strategy. A source close to the governing body said about the auction dates along with rules and regulations:
“The IPL 2025 auction will be held in late November or early December this year. Its rules will be known in a few days.”
Original date it was late August when the league announced its retention policy for the 2025 edition. However, there was a delay by the BCCI, but they also informed the franchises and reportedly said that they will announce the rules by the end of September.

The franchises have already started preparations for the tournament. A few of the teams are also on the lookout for a coach and many franchises have plenty of spots to fill ahead of the IPL 2025 auction.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have become the latest team to announce their head coach for IPL 2025. Former Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting has been appointed as the head coach of the team.
Recently, Lucknow Super Giants also announced Zaheer Khan as their mentor, while Rahul Dravid joined Rajasthan Royals as head coach. Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals are also expected to make announcements soon.
