Aakash Chopra said on Raj Shamani’s YouTube podcast, “Gautam is someone who once had a fight with a truck driver in Delhi. He got out of his car and got into the truck to grab the driver’s collar for making a wrong turn and being rude to him. I said, “Gauthi, what are you doing?” I said. So it was made by Gautam.”
Chopra noted that Gambhir is an incredibly hard-working cricketer, but also described the former World Cup winner as “short-tempered” when it comes to his temperament. Gambhir was one of the top-class batsmen of his era and now he is tasting success in coaching.
He signed off saying: “A passionate guy. He is very diligent when it comes to his craft. A bit serious but scored a lot of runs. He always wore his heart on his sleeve. In terms of temperament, he can be very short-lived. But everyone has a different character.”
Notably, Gambhir’s on-field controversies are no secret to fans, with his infamous clash with Virat Kohli causing a lot of buzz among the cricketing fraternity, especially during his time as a player and later mentor of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
Gambhir is gearing up for his first Test assignment as India coach
Despite their fiery past, Gambhir and Kohli surprised everyone by reconciling during the 2024 IPL and made headlines for their renewed camaraderie. Gambhir is now the head coach of the Indian cricket team, sharing a great friendship with the former Indian captain as seen in videos and pictures.
Both are currently preparing for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh at home. The home series will begin with the first Test in Chennai in September, followed by the second and final Test in Lucknow starting on September 27.
