‘Absolutely superb’: Shearer praises Arsenal duo after Tottenham win

Football pundit Alan Shearer was impressed with two Arsenal players who impressed against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Gunners managed to beat their rivals 1-0 when most people expected the hosts to take all three points due to Arsenal’s injury crisis.

Mikel Arteta’s side were without several first-team players such as Martin Odegaard, Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori through injuries.

Declan Rice was suspended for the game following his red card against Brighton in the previous game.

Even so, they managed to overcome their rivals thanks to Gabriel’s goal in the second half of the match.

Shearer was impressed with Arsenal’s defensive duo of Gabriel and William Saliba, who both proved once again why they are so highly regarded in the football world.

“They’re big, they’re strong, and they don’t mind a battle. In fact, they love a battle and a challenge,’ the former striker told Premier League Productions, as quoted Metro.

“They just got rid of everything that came in the box, they were absolutely gorgeous.”

“When you go one goal behind against this Arsenal team you have to do something special to come back because it’s very, very tough.”

Gabriel scored Arsenal’s winner against Tottenham.

“They have the best back four in the Premier League, there’s no doubt about it. The way they operate, the way they operate, the way they protect.’

“Spurs didn’t have an answer today, not for the first draw of the season, but in the end, they just ended up putting balls into the box which are fodder for those two centre-backs.”

It was a declared victory for the Gunners against their biggest rivals. After taking the lead, they kept Spurs’ attack quiet and showed a good defensive performance.

The Gunners have won three of their opening four games of the season. They only dropped points against Brighton, in the game in which Rice received a red card.

Arsenal will face Man City in the Premier League

With the first-choice midfield out of the game, the way Arteta and the players handled the difficult trip to Tottenham Stadium deserves praise.

Arteta’s side have often been criticized for their lack of depth in the squad, but a performance against Spurs on Sunday would give them confidence for their next Premier League game against champions Manchester City.

After competing against City for the last two seasons, the Gunners will be expected to do the same this season and hope to finally end their dominance this season.
