We’re in half the way to the 107th PGA Championship, and for the second day in a row, the pre-Turneu 500-1 Longshot Jujas is the owner of a two-stroke lead in the Hollow Quail Club In Charlotte, NC
Vegas set the pace on Thursday, firing a 64-year-old, and collecting as a 200-1 long for the first round leader. While it is always difficult to follow a particularly low round with a repeated type performance, Vegas held on Friday, shooting a 1-nine 70 to maintain his two-shot advantage.
Running on the weekend, three players follow two, Matt Fitzpatrick, Matthieu pavonand like woo kim, who tied up for the lower round of the day, a 64, which included a hole-in-one in the sixth hole of 252-Oborri par-3. Max Homa, a winner in Quail Hollow for the Wells Fargo 2019 championship, found a habit that has extinguished it for some time now, linking Kim with a round of 64 on Friday. Homa, along with world no. 1, Scottie Scheffler, is three strokes at 5 under. Ten players are in 4 under, four shots back with 36 holes left to go.
After so many rainfall in the area before the championship began on Thursday, the golf course was still a little soft on Friday, but things seem to be getting stronger. I believe we can expect the green especially to be much stronger during the weekend and increasingly difficult to keep with so many shots of long iron access. The wind is supposed to begin early afternoon on Saturday, in the 15-20 MPH neighborhood. It may be the “day of movement” really for some of the players in the back of the package that are leaving early on Saturday, beating most of the heavier winds.
SUPPORTING
Bryson Dechambeau (+850)
This price may be a little light in Dechambeau-I would like to see 10-1 or better-but I still believe he is willing to make a move over the weekend. He has done everything very well, except for the shocks: about green, where he ranks 66th in the field after two rounds and is losing almost a stroke in the area. As the golf course continues to dry, I believe that the advantage for the biggest shoes will increase as they will be able to hit shorter handcuffs in these greens that are likely to become more difficult and harder to maintain. With the way Dechambeau is playing out and with putter, I believe he will create many opportunities to close the gap in Vegas.
JJ SPAUN (70-1)
70-1 to win? Of course, why not? However, I also feel playing the spaun in the 3-1 neighborhood to finish the Top-10 is a very good bet. He currently sits tied for 17 after two solid rounds 71 and 68. He ranks 15th in this field for SG: off the tee and is no. 1 for SG: Access and accuracy of the direction. The driving is holding back, losing a stroke in the field through two rounds. I wait that this will turn for better at a point on the weekend and spaun will find himself with a great chance to finish the Top 10 and maybe even better.
Harris English Top 20-Finish (+360)
Very similar to Spaun, English is playing very well from Tee in Green, but is fighting with putter – and English is a great holder. English ranks 19th in this field for SG: Off the tee, 23rd in access, and is the seventh for the greens in the regulation -but it is 59 for SG: Setting, also loses better than stroke. I expect both of these guys to move you over the weekend.
paleness
Max Homa (18-1)
I mentioned that Homa is a past winner here and he has also won at Torrey Pines, which I think is a very related course to Quail Hollow. But we know how Homa fought for the past year and I’m not waiting for him to suddenly take this work in a big championship. He is currently hanging with a very hot coat, ranking 11th in this field for SG: placing 36 holes, but he ranks 58th out of the 74 players remaining on the field for SG: Access. If he continues to fight with handcuffs, I do not see the holder able to keep up.
