Surprisingly there is there few buzz About the Cacace-Wood battle of fans, perhaps due to the underwhelming promotion of the event. Compared to other battles, there has not yet been much of a great attempt to sell this domestic level waste.
Weigh-in-results
Anthony Cacace 129.8 vs. Leigh Wood 129.8
It is the only semi-striking fight on the map that will interest fans outside the UK. Some of the other weights on the map are as follows:
Liam Davies 125.2 vs. Kurt Walker 125.4
OWEN COOPER 145.7 Against Chris Congo 146.7
Sam Noakes 141 lbs 7 vs. Patrik Balaz 141
Cacace’s missed opportunity
Part of the problem is that Cacace, 36, missed a great opportunity to disclose himself to the world scene when he vacated his IBF Super Featherweight title after winning it last May in a troubled technical knockout of the 8th round in Riyadh.
Rather than defending his ibf belt against its mandatory challenger Eduardo ‘Sugar’ NúñezCacace evacuated the tire to take a better paying battle against the faded Josh Warrington in September. Cacace won, but looked mediocre.
Even if Cacace lost that battle against Nunez, he would still be asked for profitable domestic clashes against Warrington and Leigh Wood. It was a mistake of Cacace because he returned to the invisible fighter he was once before his dismay of Cordina.
The way he acted against Warrington is perhaps a good thing that he did not go through with the fight with “Sugar ‘Nunez (27-1, 27 COs), because he would probably have cleaned his clock by the tough Mexican. Still, it seemed bad for Cacace to waive his IBF title instead of defending it against Nunez just to tackle the Over-Hill Warrington.
Title shot implications
If Cacace wins Saturday, it should help him get closer to a world title at 130 if it is a high goal. However, Wood is seen as rinsed by fans. So, Cacace doesn’t get too much of a hump of a win over him. If Anthony wants a quick world title, he must adopt the contender Raymond Ford.
If Cacace Ford beats, he will have a quick chance at another title. Unfortunately, I don’t think he would even risk the fight. If Cacace does not fight Nunez, he certainly does not want to be entangled with Ford.
