Forum Member Review: CaddyDaddy Claw Gloves

Known for their travel bags, CaddyDaddy offers more than just a way to transport your clubs when you travel. Their line of Claw gloves features four models that claim to offer superior grip, performance and durability. The use of suede and mesh, combined with a silicone handle, stands out Gloves with claws from traditional leather options. Not only do they claim to last up to 25 rounds or more, but they are also machine washable to further increase longevity.

MyGolfSpy Forum members put these claims to the test in a review of the Claw Pro and Max golf gloves.

CaddyDaddy Test Highlights

  • Excellent dry weather capture: The CaddyDaddy Claw Pro and Max grips both excelled in dry weather for grip. Testers noted that even on older, worn gloves, the silicone material helped create a firm, secure grip.
  • …Efforts in wet weather: Testers noted that during rainy conditions, the silicone grip lost all “stickiness”. This was consistent with the Pro and Max gloves.
  • Ventilation and breathing: The Claw Pro was great on hot days with testers noting it kept their hands cool and dry. The Max didn’t fare so well with testers citing the difference in materials as the most likely root cause.
  • Car wash? Testers stated that after wearing the gloves for several rounds and washing them, they returned to their “out of the box” condition. If you don’t like spending money on new gloves, this might be the one for you.

Initial thoughts and impressions

Our testers were eager to receive Claw Pro AND MAX gloves to start testing them. Some were a little uninspired at first, noting that with an effort to list all the benefits on the packaging, it felt a bit like a product from an infomercial. However, those thoughts were quickly dispelled by testers gavinx91 noting that once the glove was in his hand, it looked and felt good and high quality.

Rico_de_Gallo also spoke about the quality of the construction, saying that “They have a clean, sleek look to them. Well made and well built. The Velcro on the back is nice and strong.”

Another common theme among testers is that the Claw’s grip seemed to be built more like a “work” glove than a golf glove. However, this should not be taken as a negative as they believed it would help the overall durability of the glove.

Aesthetics, fit and feel

How a glove looks, fits and feels will have a big impact on how well you think it will perform on the course. If a glove is too tight or too loose, it will affect comfort and performance.

Cmra1 DECIDE Claw Pro on trial on an early, humid Atlanta morning. He said he got a few looks from his playing partners, but none had anything bad to say. They were more or less curious about how the glove felt in his hands. In form and feeling, he said, “I liked the feel of the mesh on the back of my fingers. It felt more flexible than regular leather gloves.”

One downside to the fit for tester gavinski91 was that the seams on the inside of the glove felt significantly larger than what one is used to with a traditional glove. He stated, however, that the stretch and flexibility in the back of the hand and sides of the fingers make up for this.

Warm weather performance

The Claw Pro and Max were put to the test in warm conditions from the start of this test. The glove design leans towards better ventilation than a traditional leather glove. Would our testers see those benefits or were they left wanting more?

EnderinAZa tester in the Mesa, Ariz., area plays in the sweltering heat. He said, “I have never played a better glove for hot, dry conditions.Willie T, a tester in hot and humid North Carolina, left no stone unturned in his warm weather testing. He left impressed, saying: “Due to the masterful nature of the gloves, even the hottest sweatiest days became a forced reminder to change gloves at the turn (a huge plus), not something I would see in traditional leather.”

Wet weather performance

No golfer will be able to avoid wet weather. When these conditions arise, controlling our clubs during a swing is more important than ever. With a silicone based glove, how will Claw gloves perform when wet?

Somewhat to be expected, as the nature of silicone is quite excellent when wet, our testers found that the gloves struggled in wet conditions. EnderinAZwho tested a combination of glove and wet glove, as well as a dry glove and wet glove, said, “The grip is so great that we can’t swing a club without feeling like I’m going to throw the club down the fairway.”

Rico_de_Gallo found somewhat better performance during a rainy round with Pro model on the Max model. After playing Max for eight holes and feeling uncomfortable making a full swing with how smooth the glove was, he switched to Pro and “Was shocked that even with a wet hand and wet gloves, the glove held traction.”

The bottom line with these gloves according to multiple testers? Keep the silicone palm as dry as possible at all costs, whether that be a Ziploc bag or extra dry towel to wipe down the gloves and the gloves themselves.

Durability of gloves

Last but certainly not least, the durability of a glove is an important piece of the puzzle when trying to find the right one for you. Some gloves are designed to last only a few rounds, while others will go a full season without significant wear and tear. With the unique design of the Claw glove line, how well would they hold up?

Rico_de_Gallo logged more than 350 shots per glove and over 1,100 total swings between practice and game. “The signs of wear are more visible on the white Pro and Max model compared to the gray Pro handle. But the silicone has held up well. The edges of each silicone rib are still intact and show no signs of fraying or excessive use.”

EnderinAZ saw some light wear on the palm of his Claw Pro after about 10 rounds with the silicone coming off in a small area. He noted that this may be due to the way he grips the club, however, and not a direct fault of the grip itself.

Testers were quite impressed with the durability of the Claw gloves. An added bonus is that these gloves are machine washable, and no testers noticed any damage to the glove’s structure during washing.

Final thoughts

Overall, our testers came away impressed Claw Pro AND Gloves Maxwith three of them keeping this handle firmly on the game for the foreseeable future. Durability, comfort and ventilation were the main points that sold our testers. If you play in wet weather all the time, this may not be the glove for you.

However, if you’ve been looking for a glove to wear for the long term, try these gloves. Click the link here for a full review and recap!
