Lee Carsley believes the ‘best’ manager will be named England boss

Lee Carsley is confident the Football Association will name England’s “best ever” manager after the interim boss secured victory in his first game in charge of the Three Lions.

Carsley enjoyed a successful start to life with the England senior team, overseeing it 2-0 win in the Republic of Ireland in their opening match of the UEFA Nations League. He will return to the touchline on Tuesday when England host Finland at Wembley Stadium, during which he will hope to impress again.

As the search for Gareth Southgate’s permanent replacement continues, Carsley believes the FA will appoint the right manager to lead England to success

“I try not to think too much about myself,” he told reporters ahead of the clash in Finland. “The best person should get the job. I know my role for the next three pitches and I’m comfortable with that.”

Carsley also took time to give an update on the current England squad, making sure everyone is fit ahead of Tuesday’s game.

“We’re aware that we’ve had six sessions and there’s one or two things we’ve tried to implement. A lot of good things have already been done and we’ve tried to make some adjustments. The players are open to being a bit more risky in certain areas, but we don’t ask players to be in a position they are not capable of.

“I aim to do a good job every day and see where it goes. The players should catch the eye. I’m really excited for the game.

“We will make two or three changes, we will freshen things up a bit, but the group is very motivated and we should be looking forward to the game on a ground like this. I want us to play with that control and we are excited to see it. The fans they expect England to create chances at home and play with pace, so no change there.
