Legendary Indian National Cricket Team captain Sourav Ganguly, while talking about the recent decline of the Pakistan National Cricket Team, gave a sharp verdict on its current set-up.
During his international cricket career from 1992 to 2008, Sourav Ganguly played against several legendary Pakistani cricketers like Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Shoaib Akhtar and Shahid Afridi among others.
The aforementioned Pakistani players had back-to-back wins and were capable of single-handedly guiding their teams to victory. According to Ganguly, there are no such talented cricketers in Pakistan anymore.
Pakistan cricket recently hit a new low after a 0-2 home Test series loss to the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. After losing the first Test by 10 wickets and the second Test by 6 wickets, they were shockingly whitewashed by the Bangla Tigers.
Earlier, Pakistan faced a group stage exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, which was won by India. They suffered a shock loss to the United States of America (USA) in the tournament, which was a huge embarrassment for the former World Champions.
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly, speaking at a recent promotional event in Kolkata, said there is a “real shortage of talent” in Pakistan. As quoted by PTI, Sourav Ganguly said:
“I see a real dearth of talent in the country. Whenever we think of Pakistan, we think of Miandad, Wasim, Waghar, Saeed Anwar, Muhammad Yousuf and Younis Khan.”
It should be noted that one of the most worrying issues for the Pakistan National Cricket Team was the poor physical fitness of players like Shaheen Afridi, Nasim Shah, Haris Rauf, Khurram Shahzad, Ihsanullah and Aamer Jamal. cricket due to serious injuries.
I don’t mean that disrespectfully. Old Pakistan had some great cricketers in this squad which I have not seen – Sourav Ganguly
Sourav Ganguly further said that he doesn’t see any great cricketer in the current Pakistan team and people associated with Pakistan cricket should fix things soon.
“This is the memory of Pakistan for us, but it is not winning matches in the modern generation of cricket. Every generation has to produce outstanding players to win and I have seen them in the West Indies when I look at Pakistan in world cricket. In India during the World Cup, the World Cup and now after the Bangladesh series defeat there is a shortage of talent in that country.
“People associated with sports in Pakistan will have to look at it. I don’t mean this disrespectfully. Old Pakistan had great cricketers, I don’t see them in this squad,” Sourav Ganguly said.
Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board has tried to change things by bringing in new coaches, appointing new captains and even bringing in a new curator, but things haven’t changed.
Earlier there were reports that white ball captain Babar Azam and red ball captain Shan Masood have been sacked but according to latest reports, head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie advised PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi not to make a management change..
