More, from the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup press release:
Perron won the race, Carpe took the Rookies Cup in the Misano final
Alvaro Carpe held off Brian Uriart in the final corner to claim the title for the 2024 Red Bull Moto Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup. 0.061 seconds ahead, Valentin Pero won the race, but 2nd placed Carpe was well ahead of 3rd. Yuriart.
Thanks to a one-year run to finish in the top 3 of the Rookies Cup, both Carpe and Perrone are 17-year-olds with a chance to step up to Moto3 next season. Máximo Quiles has not been able to ride today due to a last lap injury he suffered yesterday, and is coming off a 3rd place finish in last year’s Cup.
Carpe got cold.
“Even after yesterday’s disappointment, I thought I’d sit here today as the champion,” said a sweaty 17-year-old Spaniard after the podium ceremony. “Last night I was going through all the last round possibilities in my mind. It was a very difficult last lap because with three laps to go I went wide and it was difficult to manage. I told myself to calm down, it was time to go back to the front.”
“On the last lap, I got into a good position, I passed Pinin on the back straight behind Peron. I was looking at the television screens to see where Brian was and saw that he was third. I know this will be difficult because I know he will try, he is a very good rider.
“I always enjoy fighting him because I know how good he is, but we’re right. One of the last lap options I was thinking about last night was for Brian to come inside me in the last corner and that’s what he did. I grabbed my line, closed and cast a second time.
“Winning the Red Bull Rookies’ Cup is great for me, the team has done an incredible job supporting me in the Cup for two years. This cup gives us all a great opportunity and I’m very happy to win it.
Perrone perfect
“It’s a fantastic way to end the season,” said the 16-year-old Argentine. “I was leading all the races, good pace, good rhythm, I was running first, second. Ending the season with a win yesterday in second place is unbelievable.”
“The first year in the Rockies Cup was fantastic. I’ve been improving little by little since the first races and I’m really enjoying it. Two wins to get six podiums is incredible. The Rookies Cup was a big step for me and in the pre-race I was looking around at all the good riders and knowing how high the level of the cup is, I was hoping to be in the top ten.
“I always watched the Rockies Cup and it was amazing to fight at the front and win races.”
Uriarte did everything
“The competition was good today, I liked it,” said the narrowly beaten 16-year-old Spaniard. “I did everything I could, it was a failure to do more. I just wanted to clean up and finish my run. If you can’t win, you have to accept it.
“I put everything into this weekend and that made the challenge continue today. I really enjoyed the weekend and I’ve really enjoyed the whole season. I’m really proud of the season I’ve had and a big thank you to everyone who’s been a part of this amazing year.”
