WBC and WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora (22-1-1, 14 COs) used his long 6’5 1/2 ″ framework and a high work rate to chop Challenger Chordale Booker (23-2, 11 coes) in their main liner in the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday night.
Booker’s nose was bleeding badly through the third round, and he seemed to let blood come out of his mouth. He hit Fundora in rounds three and four too much. Booker landed some big shots in each of the rounds, but there wasn’t enough of it. He was too busy moving and trying to survive so that he could obtain any real offense.
The fight looked like a slaughter because Chordale did not have the power and size to be competitive against Fundora. To have a chance to win, Booker would have needed a large power from some of the big meeters in the 154-pound division, but he wasn’t missing. Of course, this is why he was selected as Fundora’s opponent. If he could hit, he would have been skipped like other fighters in the division, such as Bakhram Murtazaliev.
Booker was on the flight of battle and tried to stay away from champion, Fundora. He landed some nice shots in the first two rounds, but by third place Booker worked through the champion. Booker’s nose and mouth bleeding from shots he took in round three.
Fourth, Fundora landed a few left hands that made Booker look in need. ‘The Towering Inferno’ Fundora then captured him against the ropes and pressed him to the canvas after nailing him with a hard shot. Referee Thomas Taylor had a bad hurt and looked by referee Thomas Taylor before he could continue. Fundora chased his sore opponent and nailed him with repeated shots, causing Booker to fall against the ropes.
Referee Taylor hurled the competition just in time and stopped to prevent a second knockout. The time of the downtime was at 2:51 of the round.
