Manchester United hopes to continue playing Old Trafford throughout the adjoining construction of the new 2 million pound stadium in the club, has confirmed a senior architect of the project.
By the beginning of this month, United revealed plans for a new 100,000 stage of state -of -the -art capacity This would replace Old Trafford in the same place as its 115 -year -old home. Once the work begins, he promises to bring to life Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s dream of creating a “North Wembley”.
Although the redevelopment of the existing Old Trafford was considered, it was concluded that the creation of a new stage from the base is the best option.
Part of the question associated with Old Trafford as it is found has been the headache and the cost of its proximity to an operational railway line at the back of the southern booth. The new creation will eliminate this problem moving slightly to the west.
But it also means that, building next to the current stage, it can be kept in use until a time when the club is ready to pass.
“The idea is to say that Manchester United can continue to play Old Trafford throughout this process,” said architect Foster + Partners Patrick Campbell Manutd.com.
“So we are locating the new stadium widely in the middle of the Bridgewater channel and the railway line, just west of the existing stage.”
Although the United has always been a club that was promoted to be the best in the whole council, including -infrastructure and facilities, the only disadvantage of a new stadium is losing the attached history to Old Trafford, open in 1910. And, although very little of the original construction survives after the damage of World War II and the 90’s and 2000’s.
It is important to ensure that everything that is incorporated into the new Old Trafford.
“We were honored and privileged to be in the recent Memorial (Munich),” said Campbell.
“It’s so powerful. It’s so important and not negotiable. This must be such an important role in the design of how all this is presented. We want to work with fans to understand what important pieces are and what is the best way to continue this beautiful story of history and make sure that we can continue to honor these memories
“So this is how they could be integrated into the new stadium or the public spaces of the stadium? Or how we could even add them. How can we make this (area) even more about Manchester United, the story and the story that is unique in the club and difference of anything else?”
