Arsenal’s main coach, Renee Slegers, urged his side to bounce off the loss of last weekend in Liverpool at the Adobe Women Cup.
A goal of goalkeeper Daphne Van Domselaar was enough to send Liverpool to the semifinals after a close battle at Meadow Park. ArsenalCurrently ten points behind Chelsea on top of Super League Women (WSL) Table, now it only has the Champions League as an opportunity to protect the silver this season.
“It was very disappointing,” acknowledged Slegers, speaking before Friday’s trip to Everton.
“The players were angry on Monday and we want to do -better as the collective progresses, but we can no longer affect it, it is behind us. So now we want to look forward, and on Friday, a very important game against Everton in the League and we know that we are still active in the Champions League.
“We have a great month. We have two competitions where we are still active and we want to delve into everything and go for a crockery, because it is very important for the club.”
Slegers mentioned how the disappointment of falling from the FA CUP will work to motivate his side to the business of the 2024/25 season.
“You could see the response of the players, they were very disappointed and they want more. So I see it positively, because I think these emotions and that frustration can cause motivation. The girls are determined to show something better and I am also,” he said.
“It is important for us in the Games to solve the problem in front of us, and we can all agree that we did not succeed on Sunday. Then it is what we must focus on and emphasize moving forward. We must leave the emotions last Sunday behind us and look at it more objectively and constructively.”
Gunners are now traveling to the Walton Hall Park to face -Everton on the WSL. The last meeting between the two parties was a very disputed game, which ended in a 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium.
Everton has enjoyed the improvement in recent weeks, winning three of his last four WSL games.
“They exchange between systems. What seems to be trying to do is to play for force and to adjust to the opposition. So I think it is a real force and they have it right now,” analyzed the opposition Slegers.
“I think they change well between an aggressive press. They recognize when they want to press as a team, but they are also very comfortable and disciplined when they defend their own goal and end in a low block. So I think this is the strength and I think we have to try to break down on Friday.”
