Lamont Roach attorney sent a letter to the New York State Athletic Commission asking them to change the results of Lamont’s fight against Gerrvonta ‘Tank’ Davis last Saturday night to make him the new WBA lightweight champion.
The battle was recorded a 12-round draw: 115-113 for tank, 114-114 and 114-114.
According to Dan Rafael, Roach’s lawyer wants the New York Commission to “disqualify” the winner over the tank by a ninth round TKO, or by a decision. Davis took a knee in the ninth round after he was hit.
He then got up and went to his corner to make his face towel through his coach. He claims to have hair fat in his eyes. Referee Steve Willis did not count it as a knockout, tackling it as a knockout or disqualifying him. He could have done one of the three, because Tank walked to his corner without a timeout.
You just knew it was coming from Roach, because the No-Knockdown call in the ninth round against Tank not only cost him the fight, but probably millions he would get as the new WBA lightweight champion. He would hold the WBA title, which would play in his favor in negotiations for a re-broadcast or a fight against one of the other belt containers, such as WBC champion Shakur Stevenson.
“The lawyer for Lamont Roach, Greg Smith, sent a letter to the New York Athletics Commission requesting the commission to review the controversial majority stretch of the WBA lightweight Titlist Germavis,” Dan Rafael said on his Fight Freaks United.
(The letter) asks that the commission reverses the outcome of the struggle and reverses Roach, which is the ruling WBA junior lightweight titlist, as a ‘the true winner of the attack – whether via TKO as a result of Mr. Davis who removed him from the attack, or that it was not qualified to wear an illegal irritation in the ring, or adjusted via the decision, was adjusted.
If referee Roach had given credit for the ninth round, he would have won with the scores 115-112, 114-113 and 114-113
