Shakur Stevenson believes that a battle between undisputed light heavyweight champion Dmitri Bivol and WBA, compulsory David Banavidez, is now one of the ‘biggest fights’ that can be made in boxing.
When Biblical (24-1, 12 cost) last Saturday night Artur Betterbiev with a 12-round majority decision in Riyadh, he inherited his WBC duty Benavidez (30-0, 24 COs), which are many problems due to his high punch, power, knowing, youth and fearlessness.
“Benavidez against Biblical is there with the best fights that can be made in the boxing sports,” Shakur Stevenson said Ring magazine About a fight he feels is one of the best at the moment.
BIVOL’s options
It is not a surprise that Bivol’s promoters in Matchrome focus on other battles for him, and it is possible that if the World Goat Council tries to force his hand, the belt will be followed up. In this way, Bivol can fight easier that will pay well.
Turki Alalshikh will decide who is facing Biblical, but promoter Eddie Hearn has a lot of influence on him because of their friendship. If Hearn chooses to skip Bisvol Benavidez forever, he can do so by sacrificing the WBC belt or ignoring him.
The WBC allowed popular fighters to keep their belts on years without ordering them to defend the tire. Biblical is popular enough to bypass its compulsory WBC and fight whoever he wants, be it better Biev, Canelo Alvarez or Callum Smith. These are the Big Three that Hearn recently mentioned as fighters that he is interested in Biblical fights next.
What makes it even less likely that Benavidez will have a chance to fight Biblical is his success in the past. He revealed in an interview that he had lit him with a 20-punch eruption and that he was coming close to going down. Banavidez says he was said after the round that he would not be able to become biblical again.
