Crawford’s workout: A look at Canelo Strategy, Evational Key

Terence Crawford has his greater physique and the moves he plans to use when he takes off two divisions from 154 to 168 to challenge WBA, WBC and WBO Super Middleweight Champion Canelo Alvarez for his three (or maybe four) titles on September 13 in Las Vegas.

Evasion tactics

Crawford (41-0, 31 COs) still looked like a junior middleweight in size, and today showed a lot of movement in his short training grip. It is believed that he will box bigger, stronger and younger Canelo (62-2-2, 39) to stay outside the fire line.

Terence will sit for a year without fighting rather than moving to 168 to fight one of the top contenders, such as Olsleys Iglesias, Diego Pacheco or Christian Mbilli. If he did, he could stay sharp, tackle the Super Middleweight Division and the fans show that it is not just a retirement pay day.

For boxing fans who have a head on their shoulders, this is the only conclusion you can make. Crawford says he goes to 168 to fight Canelo for Legacy to prove his greatness, but he still chooses not to fight in the division.

Legacy or money?

In addition, he plans to leave the 168 pound division after he either retires or returned to 154. It makes it seem clear that it’s about money. If Crawford doesn’t do it for money, why not even take a tune-up on 168?

It would be great for the people who ordered this opportunity on PPV if Crawford did fight, rather than running in the ring, like Jermell Charlo, 154 pounds, acted in 2023. Jermell was like a bigger, stronger version of Crawford, but he didn’t want a part of the fight. He took most of the fighting, running, and the supporters were furious.

Crawford showed no power in his move until 154 from 147 August against Israil Madrimov, and his face hit badly by the end of the fight. It was almost as bad as the face of Vergil Ortiz Jr. when he fought against Madrimov last Saturday.

Vergil jr. Did a better job of beating Madrimov than Crawford, but he was younger and more willing to get involved. Crawford has definitely fought and still taking a lot of punishment.
