Unbeaten Avious Griffin Stop Jose ‘El Guero’ Luis Sanchez in the eighth round for the vacant WBC USA Welterweight title Thursday night in Sony Hall, New York.
In the main event, Welterweight Griffin, 17-0 (16), Sanchez, 14-5-1 (4), stopped at 2:46 of the eighth round of a scheduled ten rounds for the vacant WBC USA Welterweight title.
In the first round of Midway Point, Griffin landed a left hook after a right side went on the chin and down Sanchez for an 8 scores by referee Shawn Clark. He could get to the bell by mainly covering. In the second round of Midway Point, Griffin Sanchez dropped a right on the chin for an 8 scores by referee Joe Munde. In the final seconds, Griffin landed a right on the chin and dropped Sanchez for a third time for another 8 scores of the referee. Griffin also drew blood from the nose of Sanchez.
In the third round, Griffin continued to dominate a match against Sanchez. In the fourth round, Griffin went out for the most part Sanchez. Halfway through the round, Griffin Sanchez drove a combination in the ropes. With a minute left, Griffin complained after a clash of heads. In the final seconds, it was Sanchez who ended up the last punch a right to griffin’s chin.
In the fifth round, Griffin continued, who did his best to keep the pace with him. In the last twenty seconds, Sanchez has landed his best punch of the fight, a right to Griffin’s body. In the sixth round, Sanchez came back well, if not enough to win the round. In the final seconds, Sanchez slipped to the canvas. It was perhaps his best round so far. Before the next round, the ring -generic Sanchez investigated.
In the seventh round, in the final seconds, Griffin Sanchez shook a right to the chin. In the eighth round, Griffin continued to take it to Sanchez and hurt him, when referee Clark came in and blew it off.
Junior Welterweight Jason ‘The Joker’ Castanon, 2-1 (1), won a majority decision on Stephen Barbee, 0-3) over four close rounds.
In the first round, former MMA boxer Barbee, who has former IBF lightweight world champion Paul ‘The Pittsburgh Kid’ Spadafora in his corner, while his coach opened halfway in the round after he and the bigger Castanon mostly each other started.
In the second round there was little to choose between both fighters. Before the third round, Barbee examined his gloves because the tire was loose. In the third round, there was too much clinic, which kept referee Joe Munume busy. Castanon had a cut on his eyebrow due to a clash of heads at the end of the round.
Castanon did enough against the aggressive Barbee in the fourth and final round to take the round with a wave at the last minute.
Scores 38-38, 39-37 and 39-37.
Formerly unbeaten Junior Welterweight Southpaw ‘King’ Koby Khalil Williams, 4-1 (3), lost by a majority decision at Southpaw Nick ‘The Truth’ Isaac, 6-0 (4), over six rounds.
In the first round, the scheduled six rounds were increased from four due to two fights on the map that fell. Both Southpaws boxed each other well, with Isaac having a little lead and ended up a little more against the bigger Williams. In the second round, Isaac Williams mostly stabbed an effective stitch, with Williams at the receiving point.
In the third round, like the previous round, Isaac was still the busier of the two. In the fourth round, Williams has a little swelling under his right eye of Isaac’s sting. Like the previous rounds, Isaac Williams worked out and still took another round.
In the fifth round, both began more than the previously scheduled four. Both had to walk it and do it halfway and open it to each other. In the sixth and final round, Isaac dominated the round, like the winner.
The scores were 60-54 by all three judges.
