Xander Schauffle is not taking it to the Invitational Genesis this week but the sampling twice the big told Adam Schupak to Golfweek That he is close to a return from an injury to the ribs that has removed it for more than a month.
Schauffle’s intended return date? Arnold Palmer Invitational who will be played in Bay Hill Golf Club and Lodge in Orlando starting March 6.
“Taking Genesis give me three weeks leading to Bay Hill,” Schauffle Schupak told. “I want to get as many repetitions under the belt in front of the masters. It would be good for the competitive blood to flow several times before entering a really great event and also the players come.”
Schauffle suffered rib damage, which is called an acute intercostal strain/ micro tears, in the outside season.
Protective PGA and open champion played in Sentry and the first TGL game before withdrawing from the American Express to rest.
Schauffle, who is from San Diego, said he hoped to return so far, but mentioned roughly in Torrey Pines as the reason he chose not to return to this week’s invitational genes or Farmers Insurance Open.
“I need a little more TLC, especially in 31 versus 25 and make sure everything is properly painted,” Schauffle Schupak told. “I thought I would be fine and kept going on and playing through him in Sentry and in the first match TGL. I was pretty tapped. I knew he was deteriorating significantly and needed rest time.
“Really thick, I could potentially re-jam myself,” Schauffle told Torrey pines. “All I talked to said the worst thing you can do is return soon. The boys have told me to get hurt 6-12 weeks later. I don’t want to deal with a stop and go. Once Return, I just want to go.
The 31-year-old has avoided the mistake of injury during much of his career in PGA Tour. He is going out of a season Marque to see him win two major championships. He has great history in Augusta National, with the four endings of Top-10 in six starts.
With masters less than 60 days away, Schauffle wants to make sure that his body and game are entitled to the first of the year instead of pushing himself and flooding less than 100 percent for Augusta National.
