The two best male and female boxers of Kazakhstan are retired. Both were world champions: Gennadiy “Triple G” Golovkin, who held the WBA, WBC, IBF and IBO world -weight titles, and Christina Hammer, who is the WBC and WBO World Middleweight Titles and the WBO Super Middleweeight Titles held.
Golovkin, an Olympic silver medalist in 2004 in Athens, Greece, became professional in 2006 after an amateur record of 345-8 and later as a promoter (GGG promotions).
He was 37-0 when he was held on September 16, 2017 in the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, to a disputed split decision-making, with current super-middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. He chased Alvarez around the ring for the last seven rounds. Dave Moretti awarded him a decision of 115-113 and a draw with Don Trella 114-114. Judge Adalaide Byrd had it 118-110 for Alvarez and did not again judge 30 days. She retired in 2024.
Golovkin made the mistake of changing from Abel Sanchez to Jonathan Banks in 2017 or 2019. Either way, he went in the rematch from a punch style to a boxer puncher style after scoring a knockout in his next battle against Vanes Martirosyan, 36-3-1, in Stub Hall Center, Carson, Ca. He stopped a twenty-three fighting button in his previous fight and defeated Daniel ‘Miracle Man’ Jacobs, 32-1, in the Madison Square Garden in New York.
The re-broadcast with Alvarez was again on September 15, 2018 in T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he lost a majority decision. It was only on September 22, 2022, about four years later, that they fought for a third time. He then retired at the age of 40. I tried to issue his last promoter, Tom Loufler (K2 Promotions), but I did not receive an answer about whether he retired.
Golovkin defended the Gabe ‘King’ Rosado of Philadelphia in January 2013, which he stopped in seven rounds at MSG when I contacted one of his sparring partners, Dhafir ‘No Fear’ Smith of Philly, which twice in the Camp was, with Super Middligt in the camp, champion Andre ‘sog’ Ward. He said he didn’t know who would win between Ward and Golovkin. He said that Golovkin “hits a heavyweight!” In the camp was Philly’s Farah Ennis (brother of the current IBF Welter Champ ‘Boots’ Ennis), who, when he spoke, said, ‘He beats the shit out of me!’ I briefly talked to Golovkin.
Golovkin’s final record was 42-2-1 with 37 knockouts, and a sure Ibhof future inducer who also lived in La, California.
Christina Hammer was 24-0 when I met her in Atlantic City before her struggle with current world champion Claressa ‘T-Rex’ Shields, where he lost her WBC and WBO titles to the IBF and WBA champion shields .
At the cover of the fight, American referee Sparkle Lee entered between the boxers when Hammer went on the offense and helped Shields win a decision. I then told Hammer in the locker room how she was “still a champion” in my eyes.
Hammer, discouraged from getting a rematch, returned to her home in Germany and did not fight again for ten months, and won her next five fights against non-runners, except in winning the vacant WIBF Super Middleweight title In December 2020 against Sanna Turunen in Germany, where all other battles were held since she lost her title to shields. In May 2022, she had her last struggle before she retired at the age of 32.
Golovkin and Hammer have transferred controversial decisions about their careers, and now retire and a loss of boxing.
