Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia are now practicing in San Diego for their respective fights against William Scull and Bruno Surace.
Salvador Rodriguez reports that Canelo (62-2-2-2, 39 COs) and Mungiaa training. He posted a video of them in training today. WBA, WBC and WBO Super Middleweight Champion Canelo stands in front of IBF champion Scull (23-0, 9 COs) for the undisputed championship on May 3 in Riyadh. Munguia is fighting a re -broadcast with Surace.
Ideal matches
Canelo and Munguia would be better to change opponents. Munguia could fight against Scull, which would be a very winable one for him. Canelo may face the unbeaten Surace to avenge Munguia’s loss for him. That would be the ideal situation.
Last May, Canelo Munguia defeated a unanimous decision of 12 round, giving him his first career defeat before being knocked out in six rounds later that year on December 14.
It is too much for Canelo to use Munguia as his training partner for Scull because he is not at the same level in terms of power and offensive skills. Canelo has the firepower to stop Scull unless he gets on his bike to move around.
Scull is the one who wanted Turki Al-Sheikh for Canelo’s first battle in his four-game agreement with the Riyadh season. Canelo was negotiating what a huge battle against Jake Paul would have been, but Turki signed him to an agreement.
He chose Scull as the opponent of Canelo to set up his ‘big fight’ against Terence Crawford. The fight is likely to attract much smaller numbers on PPV than Canelo against Paul because Crawford is not popular and is not a large PPV draw.
#Kaneloteam @Canelo Y @Jaimemungua15 work under the orders of @Caneloteam In San Diego after his lawsuits against William Scull and Bruno Sureeace respectively.
