It would be a strange step for Crawford if he did step down, because there are many interesting fights he can have at 154. They would not bring in the massive money that a fight against Canelo would do, but they would still pay well.

If Crawford, 37, wants to sit and wait for the outcome of Canelo’s mega fight against Jake, hoping to get negotiations with the Mexican star, he can do it. It would look so desperately weak on his part, and his popularity would continue to decline if he wasn’t going to stay busy.
Fighting one of the guys would pay well, and if Crawford was to win, it would create more interest in a fight between him and Canelo. The fight would no longer be considered a cash grab, and it is now if they are fighting.
“The Jake Paul fight makes the perfect sense for Canelo Alvarez, but it also changes the trajectory of the Crawford battle,” Eddie Hearn told the Ring Magazine Youtube Channel, discusses today’s news about Canelo who chooses to fight Jake Paul in May.

Fighting Jake Paul is a better step for Canelo’s career, because the money and publicity he will receive for that match will be great. In addition, Canelo will get more fans because of Jake’s followers on social media. He has more than 20 million Instagram followers and 20+ million YouTube subscribers, many of whom will become fans of Canelo after this fight.
Crawford’s inactivity
Crawford has to defend his WBA junior middleweight title he won from Israil Madrimov last August. He still did not make a defense of the belt, and he held it hostage. All the contenders in the top 15 of the WBA let their careers stand by Crawford who do not defend.
As a champion, Crawford was surprised with his one -time schedule. He is the worst kind of champion because he only defends annually. If Crawford wants the payday of Canelo, he must move to 168 or 175 and beat some top fighters, such as David Benavidez, David Morrell or Diego Pacheco.
