Cultida Woods, the mother of the 15-time big Tiger Woods champion, died Tuesday morning. She was 81 years old.

Her son announced the news of her transition to social media just before noon, just a week after she watched her latest match of her son TGL in Palm Beach, Fla. The cause of death was not notified.

“With my heartfelt sadness that I want to share that my dear mother, Cultida Woods, passed away early in the morning,” Woods said in a statement divided on social media. “My mother was a force of nature everything her, her soul was just undeniable. She was fast with the needle and a laugh. She was my biggest fan, the greatest supporter, without any of the achievements of my personal would not be possible. “

“Tida”, after she was called for much of her life, was a central figure in the life of the greatest player of the modern era – a tough and stoic woman that her only son shepherd in the spotlight World as a teenager, and who followed closely, while he traveled a path to 15 main championships and 82 professional victories.

Born in Thailand in 1944, Tida’s life changed when she got a secretary on a military base at the height of the 1960s War. They quickly fell in love. She followed Earl back to New York, and again in Cypress, Calif, where the couple decided to calm down. In 1975, they welcomed their first and only child in the world, a boy and named him Eldrick, for the first letter of the name of Earl, K, for the first letter of TIDA.

While Earl would later gain a major appreciation for his role as Tiger’s first coach and mentor, TIDA’s role in developing her son was no less important. She was Tiger’s shadow for much of his early life, extinguishing her son at new golf events and walking the first streets. Later, it was the moving force behind the iconic tiger dress “Sunday Red”, believing that the astrological sign of Woods, Capricorn, made its “color of energy” red.

“My mother does not get enough credit,” Woods said at Bob Jones Price Dinner last June. “Everyone thought it was my dad when I went to the street, but Mom was home. If you don’t know, Mom was there all my life.”

In her later years, Tida Woods also took on the role of the Matriarch of Tiger’s inner circle, participating in her son’s events with energy in her 81st year. On Sundays, including Sunday of the latest Woods masters, it can be followed by matching her son’s vibrant red.

“She was loved by so many, but especially by her two grandchildren, Sam and Charlie,” Tiger said in his statement. “Thank you all for your support, prayers and intimacy at this difficult time for me and my family. I love you Mom. “
