Safa Safe to say that 2024 was a great year to Scottie Scheffler. He captured seven PGA Tour wins, including his second victory of the masters and his first tournament title, along with a gold medal at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. By the end of the year he was named Player And he was the first in the world golf rankings.
In addition to all his allocations, Scheffler also led the tournament in numerous statistics – which is not so surprising given that it was his most dominant year in the tournament. But it was a statistic that stood between the rest: the blow: access.
During the 2024 season, Scheffler gained an average of 1,269 strokes on his access shooting. To give you a perspective, this is 57 percent better than Tony Finau who was second on the tours for the same status. For even more context, about 41 percent of PGA Tour players actually miss Stroke in their approach, so Scheffler’s performance was not just good – it was at another level.
So what exactly was it that made his approach to so deadly greens last year? His response can surprise you.

“I’ve always tried to have a variety of shooting that go to the greens,” Scheffler golf.com told API Media Day. “I feel this is something that has helped me to split up a little, it is able to form the ball both ways and control distance.”
Scheffler also explained that his strong access to the greens was largely due to good bases.
“(I am) Always working on my configuration and ball position,” said Scheffler, “making sure my feet, hips and shoulders are all connected and then making sure my ball position is good.
“Typically, if I’m really hitting it badly, one of those things is sure to be off.
It may be a simple intake, but it is definitely worth it. Most amateurs believe that the basics are only for beginners, and they cannot wait to graduate in the most interesting technical aspects of the game. But, as the number one in the world proves, you are as good as your basics.
Next time you are in the range, take a page from the Scheffler Games Book and perform your practice session more to master the configuration keys such as control, attitude, attitude, stretch and position of the ball. You can even use stretch rods to improve your goal, or a grip club like the one we’ve seen using Scheffler To practice putting your hands in the club properly.
The more time you can spend working on the bases, the better you will become.
