Fans believe overwhelmingly that the experiential advantage David Banavidez owns will lead him to victory over Cuban David Morrell on Saturday night in their light heavyweight fight on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Experience is overestimated. What is more important is which of these two fighters have the power, know and toughness to win. The guest tank is also a substantial factor. As we saw in Benavidez’s last fight on 175, he disappeared after six rounds and took a career’s punishment against the 37-year-old Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June 15 last year.
Guest tank is important
This man was no spring chicken, but he beat the filling out of benavidez in the second half of that fight. Endurance is therefore more important than experience in this struggle.
If the ‘Mexican monster’ fades against Morrell in the second half, I would not want to be in this situation. Morrell beats harder than Gvozdyk, and he will do much more damage. Experience will not help Benaviez take the head shots or push to the body of Morrell if he is exhausted.

Experienced falling
Many people seem to repeat the same mistake: they focus on experience in this struggle, but miss the most important things, such as athletic ability, power, toughness, endurance and ring intelligence. It is much more important than superficial experience, it is not what it is, especially in Benavidez’s case.
It is a fact that he had a weight bullying his entire career until his last fight against an old Gvozdyk, and he looked very bad in the fight. Was it because of his injured hands, as Benavidez says, or he eventually fought against someone at 175?
It would mean more if Benavidez was a true super -middle weight and if he fought many of the guys on his resume when they were younger. Would Benavidez be unbeaten if he fights against guys with his entire career? It is questionable.
If he fought his entire career against Artur Betterbiev, Dmitri Biscol and Jai Opetaia against light heavyweight or Cruiserweight, would he be the fighter he is today, still unbeaten or just another of many contenders? It makes a difference when a fighter like benavidez is smaller, older fighters.
