India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, found himself in a tough spot to avoid a row with his teammates ahead of the second T20I match in England starting on January 25 in Chennai.
Recently, Suryakumar Yadav failed to get three players who could achieve greatness in T20 cricket despite the fact that the current Indian national cricket team boasts of young guns. In a chat with star sports during the ‘Superstars’ segment, the Indian Skipper was asked to pick the players who have the potential to excel in T20 Cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav names future T20 greats ahead of Chennai T20I
Explosive inclined cheerfully said that such a discussion could lead to an argument between them. However, Suryakumar Yadav managed to pick two players but failed to name a third. He named Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson as two players who could achieve T20 greatness, but suggested many names for the latter.

Indian skipper has the potential to reach great heights in T20 cricket in Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Rinin Parag, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. Notably, these youngsters helped India reach the top of the men’s T20I rankings with 268 rating points.
Suryakumar Yadav said on Star Sports, “Yeh Toh Ladai Lagwane Wali Kaam Hai (something that will start a debate). It’s really difficult; it’s actually a big headache to choose. For me, I’d say Tilak Varma and Sanju Samson. But don’t pick me three, Yaar!” Then there’s Abhishek Sharma, Rinku Singh, Nitish Reddy, Ravi Bishnoi and Arshdeep Singh. They all have the potential to be t20 big.”
We can reach 300 in T20: Suryakumar Yadav
During the same chat, Suryakumar Yadav did not rule out the possibility of India scoring more than 300 runs in a T20I. The Indian Skipper said that the Indian bowlers have already done a great job but if they can play some big shots at the end of the innings then the target of 300 runs is definitely attainable.
Note that India’s highest total in T20I Cricket is 297/6 against Bangladesh in October. Suryakumar said, “We have almost reached 280-285. The batsmen are doing their job and if the bowlers hit two or three sixes at the death, we can reach 300. There should be some pressure on the bowlers to bat.”
Suryakumar Yadav has been overlooked for Champions Trophy 2025
Notably, India currently leads the five-match T20I series against England 1-0 after winning the first game by Seven Wickets. The men in blue will now aim to take a 2-0 lead in the T20I series when they face Jos Buttler and his team in the second match in Chennai on Saturday.
Suryakumar did not make the cut for both the England ODI squad and the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 vs England ODI 2025 which will continue on February 19.
