Pete Alonso talks ‘progressing’ with 1 team

The Toronto Blue Jays missed the postseason for the first time in three seasons, finishing with a 74-88 record and last in the American League East.

Although the Blue Jays made the postseason in 2022 and 2023, they were swept in the wild-card round each time.

This offseason has been relatively disappointing for Toronto after it failed to land several players it was chasing, including Juan Soto, Corbin Burns and Rocky Sasaki.

Although the Blue Jays let go of those players, they finally broke through by signing outfielder Anthony Santander from the Baltimore Orioles.

Now, an MLB insider is reporting that negotiations with another high-profile free agent are heating up.

“Negotiations between Pete Alonso and Blue Jays are ‘progressing,’ per source with knowledge. Not done yet and no guarantee it will get there,” wrote SNY insider Andy Martino at X .

Alonso’s negotiations have dragged on for weeks and he is reported to be talking to multiple teams.

Although Alonso has played all six seasons of his MLB career with the New York Mets, they don’t seem willing to pay the first baseman the money he wants.

In 2024, he played 162 games and hit .240 with 34 home runs, 88 RBI and a .788 OPS.

The Blue Jays and Alonso will be worth watching to see if they can agree on a deal.
