Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford has reportedly agreed to stay at Old Trafford for the rest of the season following negotiations over a loan at the stagnant Borussia Dortmund.
The England international has been actively courted by clubs around the world since publicly declaring his desire for a “new challenge” in mid-December. Rashford had been dropped for the Manchester derby days before and Ruben Amorim has not given him a minute in the six weeks since.
However, the striker’s hefty salary – believed to be in excess of £300,000-a-week – and reluctance to move outside of Europe’s elite have limited his options.
Borussia Dortmund were thought to be Rashford’s keenest suitors and even weighed in possible permanent movement at a given moment. But the financial realities of a loan deal mean the Bundesliga side have “no hope” of signing Rashford this month, for Sky Sports Germany.
All hope is not lost. Dortmund are understood to be waiting to see if United’s stance on covering the majority Rashfordthe salary of the team softens as the transfer window moves towards the end, and Barcelona seconds will remain in the race. Although, it remains to be seen how the Catalans are able to finance the excess of contract renewals that have been agreed as well as Rashford’s high salary.
AC Milan were also linked with a move for Rashford, but will not be able to register another player outside the EU after the imminent acquisition of Manchester City’s English right-back Kyle Walker.
Despite clearly pushing for an exit, Rashford has been described as “content” and even “happy” to play for Amorim if and when the Portuguese boss asks, it has been reported. the guardian.
