Newcastle United manager Paul Mitchell has agreed a surprise deal for a player who looked set to leave the club.

According to the latest information, the goalkeeper of the Magpies Martin Dubravka has now agreed terms to extend his stay at St James’ Park although at one point he agreed a move to Al Shabab of the Saudi Pro League.

It seemed very likely that this Dubravka would leave Newcastle to join Al Shababbut in the end the agreement did not materialize, and now he must remain where he is at least until the end of the season.

“What the hell is he doing?!” Which former Liverpool star says she was ready to ‘kill’ Luis Suarez after training ground incident?

Although Dubravka is no longer first choice for Eddie Howe’s side, he remains a useful team player and back-up option for the club, so most fans will likely feel this is a good news

Dubravka’s talks with Mitchell reportedly persuaded him to upend his Newcastle future.

The former Manchester United loanee put in a strong performance in the recent Carabao Cup semi-final first leg win at Arsenal in what was expected to be his last game for the club northeast

However, Dubravka has been persuaded to stay, which means Howe has also spoken highly of him recently.

“I think Martin has been in a difficult situation, like any player who comes out of contract in the summer,” Howe said earlier this month.

“Always with any player I’ve worked with, there’s always that feeling of doubt. Naturally, he will want some conclusions in his future, whether it’s a new contract with us or whatever the outcome.

“But he has certainly played very well and I am very pleased with him. I think he has more than played his part in our recent run of games. Against Arsenal I thought he was really good, so hopefully we can come to some sort of deal with him.”
