Arsenal have reached out to representatives of Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha, according to reports.
It’s no secret that the Gunners need a striker as they look to try and wrest the lead from Premier League leaders Liverpool.
FootballTransfers has already reported that Cunha is a January option that is being seriously considered. The outlet claims that the Brazilian’s current contract clash with his current team and this has encouraged Arsenal to rekindle their interest.
The site has also claimed that even personal terms are not an issue with Cunha, a gap in its assessment of the 25-year-old remains. The Midlands club would currently only let their striker leave in the January window for a fee in excess of £70m.
But the Gunners would be unwilling to pay more than around £45m, while Cunha does not believe be a priority signing like Benjamin Sesko.
Matheus Cunha’s body language was criticized by the Wolves coach
On Monday, Cunha was criticized by Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira for showing “bad body language” in the 3-1 defeat against Chelsea.
Journalist Liam Keen posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Cunha had gone straight down the tunnel after the final whistle. But Cunha refused, saying “Liar. I went to applaud (the fans), I congratulated the referees and the opposing players. Then I went to the tunnel. Don’t ever come and ask me to do it again an interview”.
Pereira said after the defeat: “It’s human for players to start to get a little… it’s normal in football.”
“I had that conversation in the dressing room. You can get frustrated because you want to win, but everyone in the team wants to win.
“I don’t like this body language. I want someone as a captain to try to help the team: running, suffering, fighting together. That’s something I can understand. Next time, I won’t understand. That’s something I don’t it can happen again.”
