Georgia Bell, Molly Caudery, Jake Wightman sign up for the Keely Klassic


An exciting new event in Birmingham on February 15 will feature a number of record attempts

Kelly Hodgkinson 800m indoor world record attempt will be the highlight of next month’s Keely Klassic meeting.

But there are likely to be plenty of other record attempts at the event in Birmingham on Saturday 15 February.

The Olympic 800m champion is aiming to break Yolanda Czeplak’s long-standing mark of 1:55.82, which was coincidentally set on Hodgkinson’s birthday, March 3, 2002.

Hodgkinson’s best times are 1:54.61 outdoors and 1:57.18 indoors and he is now preparing for the event in South Africa.

Jake Wightman will also be looking to reclaim his British indoor 1000m record at the meet. The 2022 world 1500m champion previously clocked 2:17.51, but was beaten by the Brighton Phoenix athlete in 2:17.51 ​​four years ago in New York. 5:20 p.m.

After setting a British outdoor 1500m record of 3:52.61 in last year’s Olympic final, Georgia Bell will enter this indoor season aiming to break the British indoor record of 3:59.58 held by Laura Muir.

Like Hodgkinson, Bell has been in South Africa training for the indoor season and will be looking to at least better his best of 4:03.22, set last year, which ranks him number 4 in the UK all-time rankings.

Pole vaulter Molly Cowdery is another big name signed up for the Keely Klassic.The British record holder at 4.92m hopes to enjoy another great indoor season as she takes the world indoor title in 2024. :

“This event is all about bringing energy, passion and top-class athletics to the fans,” said Hodgkinson. “It will be an unforgettable experience for all involved, with some of Britain’s best athletes competing and a special focus on the 800m.”

The event is a World Athletics Indoor Tour bronze match and kicks off at 10.45am on February 15 and will culminate with Hodgkinson’s 800m world record attempt shortly before 5pm.
