Arsenal’s interest in a transfer deal for Benjamin Sesko It’s no secret, according to Charles Watts, but no offer has been made yet.
Speaking exclusively to Caught offside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Watts explained that the Gunners remain interested in Sesko and are also holding talks behind the scenes about strengthening up front.
Watts, however, is under no illusions that a deal to bring in Sesko this January looks very difficult, with RB Leipzig unwilling to sell their star striker mid-season.
This could be a deal that has to wait until the summer, but Arsenal may also look at other options by January, and Watts suggests that internal discussions are taking place to address this.
Arsenal surely cannot continue without another attacking player coming in, and Mikel Arteta has sent the club very clear messages about that in his latest press conferences.
Benjamin Sesko’s transfer looks complicated for Arsenal, but talks continue
“Arsenal want Benjamin Sesko. That’s not a secret, everybody knows that,” Watts said.
“We knew it in the summer and we still know it now. But obviously wanting it and getting it are two completely different things.
“RB Leipzig do not want to lose their key striker in the middle of the season when they are competing for a place in the Champions League. Marco Rose made it clear in his press conference on Friday.
“So it will take a big, big offer to tempt them into doing business. Arsenal know that and so far they haven’t made any kind of offer.
“I can’t say for sure whether they will or not in the next few days. Talks are ongoing behind the scenes as they look for solutions to their attacking injury problems.”
Watts added that he believes Arsenal’s lack of action in the market so far has been a mistake, and he believes Arteta knows it too.
“The lack of action in the market has hurt them a lot and now you can see Arteta publicly asking for help in almost every press conference he has,” Watts said.
“He must be saying something similar behind closed doors, but so far nothing has materialized. The delay seems very, very expensive.”
