The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is yet to announce the Indian Team squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to be played in Pakistan and Dubai. The official announcement is expected to be made on January 18 with a press conference led by chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma.
India and Pakistan are the only two teams yet to announce their provisional squads for the Champions Trophy. The ICC had set January 12 as the deadline for all eight participating nations to announce their initial squads, but India’s announcement has been delayed due to health issues with key players.
India’s squad for the Champions Trophy will be selected on January 18
According to Sports Today, India’s squad for the Champions Trophy will be named in Mumbai on January 18, followed by a press conference with chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar and skipper Rohit Sharma.
Veteran opener Rohit Sharma is likely to lead the team in the ICC tournament starting on February 19.
Team India will play a three-match ODI series against England
Earlier reports suggested that India’s Champions Trophy squad would be announced by January 12. However, in an interview with Sports Tak, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla confirmed that a meeting will be held on January 18 to finalize India’s squad for the upcoming marquee tournament. .
BCCI has announced the T20I squad for the series against England starting on January 22. India is also scheduled to play a three-match ODI series against England. Both the ODI squad and the Champions Trophy squad are expected to be announced during the press conference.
India will begin their Champions Trophy Campaign against Bangladesh on February 20
The likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya look certain to make the squad. There is no definite update on pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s participation as he bowled 10 overs against Australia in the fifth and final Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 Test in Sydney due to back spasm.
Mohammed Shami, active in domestic cricket, remains uncertain about his fitness and selection. Kuldeep Yadav continued to bowl in the nets but his fitness is yet to be confirmed. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is expected to come into the main thanks to his experience and all-round capabilities.
India has been drawn in Group A for the Champions Trophy along with Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan. Their campaign will begin with a high-profile game against Bangladesh on February 20, followed by Pakistan on February 23. India’s last match of the group stage will be against New Zealand on March 2.
All matches will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. If India qualify for the semi-finals, they will play the first match on March 4. If it reaches the semi-finals, the final will also be held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will host the final if India does not qualify for the final.
