Ashleigh Gardner’s century takes Australia to 308
Opting to bat first, Australia’s batting line-up faced early difficulties as Phoebe Litchfield (15 off 15) and Alyssa Healy (28 off 15) fell cheaply, followed by Ellyse Perry (2 off 9) and Annabel Sutherland (10 off 16). trailed the hosts at 59/4. However, Beth Mooney (50 off 64) steadied the innings with a decisive half-century, laying the foundation for the recovery.
The turning point came when Ashleigh Gardner entered. His A sensational knock of 102 off 102 ballsStacked with 8 fours and a six, he took Australia to the total. Gardner was ably supported by Tahlia McGrath who smashed 55 off 45 balls with 8 boundaries and Georgia Wareham whose explosive cameo of 38 off 12 balls had 5 fours and 2 sixes.
England’s bowlers struggled to maintain control. Natalie Sciver and Charlotte Dean were the pick of the attack, claiming two wickets for 51 and 53 runs respectively. Lauren Bell also managed two scalps but scored 72 runs for 10 runs.

Alana Kings’ fifer restricts England
England’s chase got off to a disastrous start, losing Maia Bouchier for a duck in the second over. Tammy Beaumont (54 off 77) anchored the innings with a patient half-century, but wickets fell regularly. Heather Knight (14 off 20) and Danielle Wyatt (35 off 32) made short contributions, while Natalie Sciver hit 61 off 68 balls with 5 fours to keep England’s hopes alive.
Amy Jones made 26 for 30 but the lower order crumbled under the pressure. England lost their last five wickets for just 24 runs, unable to cope with Australia’s disciplined bowling attack.
Alana King was the star with the ball, claiming a sensational five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 5/46 in 8.2 overs. Megan Schutt provided the early breakthroughs, taking 3/57 in her nine-over spell. Georgia Wareham completed the attack with five overs of 2/27 and ensured that England never got close to the target. They were visitors 222 bundled out in 42.2 oversIt gave Australia a well-deserved win.
