Player ratings as Amad’s hat-trick inspires spectacular comeback

A hat-trick from Amad Diallo in the final eight minutes of Thursday’s visit of Southampton gave Manchester United a narrow 3-1 victory.

The Saints had only managed a single goal in their previous six Premier League games but had the chance to score twice or maybe three times before taking a much-deserved lead in the 43rd minute.

After Andre Onana denied Kamaldeen Sulemana, Mateus Fernandes and Tyler Dibling, unitedThe goalkeeper was beaten by his own player. Manuel Ugarte inadvertently deflected a first-half corner past his teammate. Having conceded headers, volleys and straight from the flag, United had now added their own goals to their growing repertoire of set-piece incompetence.

“We’ve scored a goal” was the tongue-in-cheek chant that came out SouthamptonEnd away from home at the end of the first half.

The traveling fans should have had much more to cheer about, but the combination of Ona’s heroics and the familiar flaws of their forward line ensured their lead remained just a precarious goal heading into the last ten minutes

Amad, United’s perennial savior this season, took center stage. Taking advantage of a lucky bounce off the ball, the in-form winger fired the equalizer past Aaron Ramsdale. The clock had reached the last minute of normal time when Amad got the ball back, playing a devilish one-two with Christian Eriksen that volleyed the hosts in front.

The 22-year-old capped a comeback to savor stoppage time, devouring a loose touch from Taylor Harwood-Bellis to make it 3-1.
