The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025, the world’s premier women’s T20 cricket tournament, is set to deliver another thrilling season. The season will begin on February 14 with a high-stakes clash between reigning champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Giants (GG). The opening match will take place at the newly constructed BCA Stadium in Vadodara and will kick off a season that promises new benchmarks for women’s cricket.
Venue distribution for WPL 2025 matches
For the first time in the history of the WPL, the tournament will be held at four venues – Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Mumbai, a significant expansion from the previous editions. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on January 16 announced the detailed expected schedule of a total of 22 matches in this third edition.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2025 will be played at four iconic venues, each contributing to the live schedule of the tournament. Vadodara’s state-of-the-art Kotambi Stadium will serve as the inaugural venue and host the first six matches, including the curtain-raiser on February 14 between Gujarat Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Bengaluru’s iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will then take center stage. , hosting the next eight games—the most of the four venues selected.
This stretch will include crucial matches featuring defending champions RCB, which promises high-energy contests at one of India’s premier cricket grounds. Lucknow, making its debut as a WPL venue, has been allotted four group stage games. It marks a significant milestone in the tournament’s history, bringing senior women’s cricket action to the city for the first time. Ultimately, Mumbai will play a crucial role in the final stages of the tournament. The city will host two league stage matches and both play-off games at the prestigious Cricket Club of India (CCI).
The playoff format remains unchanged from the previous season. The team that finishes at the highest level of the league will directly qualify for the finals. Meanwhile, the second- and third-placed teams will face off in the Eliminator on March 13 and battle it out for a place in the grand finals scheduled for March 15. This structure ensures that every match carries weight and makes the league stage a fierce competition.
Following the successful single-header format, all 22 matches in WPL 2025 will be played as stand-alone events. This approach maximizes audience attention both in stadiums and on broadcast platforms, ensuring uninterrupted focus on every game.
