The Braves signed the free agent first baseman on Sunday

The Atlanta Braves had their 7th straight season in 2024, finishing with an 89-73 record and finishing in second place in the National League East.

Although the Braves sneaked into the playoffs with a wild card spot, they were swept in the wild card series by the San Diego Padres.

After winning the World Series in 2021, the Braves made the playoffs for the next three seasons, but failed to advance beyond the National League Division Series.

The Braves have been relatively quiet this offseason and their only acquisition was Brian De La Cruz, but that changed on Sunday.

According to MLB insider Robert Murray of “X,” the Braves and first baseman Garrett Cooper have agreed to terms on a minor league contract.

Although Cooper only signed a minor league contract in spring training, he played eight seasons in the MLB with five different teams.

Cooper entered the league in 2017 with the New York Yankees and played for the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox in 2024.

Between the Red Sox and Cubs in 2024, Cooper played 36 games where he batted .206 with one home run, 11 RBI and a .566 OPS.

While Cooper’s numbers don’t jump off the page, he has hit double-digit home runs twice in his career.

The Braves dealt with multiple injuries to key players in 2024, but they still managed to make the postseason.
