Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus could be out for the rest of the season after picking up a knee injury against Manchester United in last night’s FA Cup defeat.
The Gunners are suffering a bit of an injury crisis in attack with Bukayo Saka out for months and not expected to return until March. Raheem Sterling has struggled for form and fitness, having returned from a knee injury himself.
And the latest setback comes in the form of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, who was in good form for Arsenal.
The attacker was stretchered off in the 40th minute of the match after a clash with Bruno Fernandes that left the attacker with a knee injury.
Arteta gave a worrying update on the injuryconfirming that it is serious. He said after the game:
“A big concern, that’s my feeling. He had to go down on a stretcher in a lot of pain, touching his knee. It doesn’t look good.”
Arsenal pundit shares Gabriel Jesus injury update
Speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his last daily news columnArsenal pundit Charles Watts shared an update on how serious the striker’s injury could be.
Although he admitted the full extent of the injury is yet to be confirmed, the player will undergo scans later today. However, he fears the injury could be serious enough to rule him out for the rest of the season.
He said:
“We still don’t know the full extent of Jesus’ injury. He’s having a scan today but the fear is that the knee injury he suffered against United is very serious.”
“If these fears come true, it is likely that we will not see him again this season. So it would be verging on negligence if Arsenal didn’t move quickly to strengthen their attack.”
If Jesus is out for the rest of the season, he may have played his last game for the club as he is one of the attackers the club are looking to sell in the summer. The club is reported to be considering using him in a swap deal to sign Juventus star Dusan Vlahovic.
