Led by world champion Ai Ogura, three riders will graduate from Moto2 to MotoGP for the 2025 season. Pedro Acosta was the only nominee for last year’s Rookie of the Year award, but this time it will be a competitive race.
Ogura made the surprising decision to part ways with Honda and join Trackhouse. The Japanese manufacturer has placed Somkiat Chantra at LCR instead.
Chantra finished only 12th in the 2024 standings. But he has the support of Japanese oil company and Honda partners Idemitsu, which helped him get a seat.
The third and final starter is Fermin Aldeguerre, who replaces six-time world champion Marc Marquez at Gresini. It ranks fifth, half way between Ogura and Chantra.

Much of the focus will be on David Alonso in the upcoming Moto2 campaign. The Colombian has equaled Valentino Rossi’s record for most Moto3 wins in a season (14), but one journalist named another rider to watch.
Diogo Moreira is expected on the MotoGP grid for 2026
Diogo Moreira is preparing for his second year in the intermediate class with the Italtrans Racing Team. Rookie of the Year Rocky Moreira has signed for his first podium at the Solidarity Grand Prix for the 2024 season.
This earned him 80 points, placing him 14th in the championship. With five consecutive top-10 finishes, he hopes to carry the momentum into 2025, including three top-five finishes.
Speaking on Motorsport Brazil’s YouTube channel, journalist Fausto Massera backed Moreira to take his first win in the category this year. It should pave the way for 2026. MotoGP Place.
His promotion comes at an opportune time for the sport. Last month it was confirmed that MotoGP will return to Brazil after more than 20 years away in 2026, where Ayrton Senna will race at the Goiania circuit and he could be a home hero.
Masera said of Alonso: “He settled in his first year in Moto3. “He won the Grand Prix in his second year and he was very good. He was Rookie of the Year in his first year in the Intermediate class and the next year, I think he scored Grand Prix and podiums.
He will emerge as one of the greatest talents on the road to MotoGP in 2026. The return of MotoGP to Brazil and a Brazilian on the grid – wherever they are – would be great.
Which seats could be open for Diogo Moreira in 2026?
Moreira is backed by Red Bull, which could help in the rider market next year. Of course, he still needs to deliver results if he wants to be an attractive option.
Red Bull is the title sponsor of the KTM factory team. And earlier he rode a KTM bike in Moto3 for the MTA Helmets-MSI team.
Logically, Tech3 could make sense as a destination. But the manufacturer faces an uncertain future in motorsports.
Red Bull will not be the savior of KTMBut they seem to require significant investment. That would at least allow them to pay off some of their massive debt and keep their racing program alive for a long time.
