Boxing results: Justis Huni dominates Shaun Potgieter in second round TKO

Heavyweight contender Justis Huni (12-0, 7 KOs) scored an easy second-round TKO over Shaun Potgieter (10-2, 7 KOs) on the undercard of Jai Opetaia vs. David Nyika at the Gold Coast Convention Centre, Broadbeach, Queensland, Australia.

Huni’s Power Display

Huni (25) hurt the South African Potgieter in round two with a looping right hand to the head. He then landed several more heavy shots, and referee Phil Austin stepped in and stopped the match. The time of the stoppage was at 0:33 of round two.

Australian Huni looked slow but powerful with his right hand. He didn’t have to worry about anything coming back from Potgieter, which was lucky for him. It will be interesting to know why Potgieter was chosen for Huni as he did not look fit and looked pretty old.

Huni really struggled to beat Kevin Lerena last year in March and was gashed by him throughout their 10-round fight. He barely won that fight. Tonight was more about giving Huni a softer opponent so he can look good.

It is too early to know how far Huni can go in the sport. He needs to be ranked high enough for a world title to get a nice payday. He doesn’t look ready to fight the big dogs in the division, like IBF champion Daniel Dubois.

“The more active I am, the better I will get. I have some injuries to take care of, but as soon as possible I will be back in the ring,” said Justis Huni. DAZN after his second round knockout of Shaun Potgieter on Wednesday night.

“I will leave it to my team. They have done a great job with me so far. I believe I can go all the way.”

It will be nice to see how Justice Moses takes on Itauma. It will be a fun fight between the two hard punchers. They are both similar in the way they move forward on slow feet, and easy to hit.

“This guy is almost there. You have another potential heavyweight champion in Justis Huni. He’s top 15 across three governing bodies,” said Eddie Hearn. “The strength and conditioning team did a great job. The speed is back.

“The confidence is back. As he said, he is getting over a bit of an injury. You will see him back in a few months. A massive 2025 for Justis Huni.
