Adam Gilchrist said at Club Prairie Fire: “I don’t see Rohit Sharma going to England. I just felt that he was saying that he would evaluate it when he got home. I mean, the first thing she’ll be greeted with when she comes home is a two-month-old baby whose diapers she needs to change. Now that might encourage him to go to England. But I know not; I don’t see him pressuring me. I think he can make it in the Champions Cup and that could be it. This can get him out.”
Virat Kohli or Jasprit Bumrah? Adam Gilchrist draws India’s captaincy conundrum
The cricket expert also doubts that Jasprit Bumrah will become India’s full-time Test captain as he predicted Virat Kohli’s possible return to the captaincy, at least for the upcoming England tour.
He added, “I don’t know that Bumrah should be the full-time captain. I think it might get a little difficult for him. So, who the next captain could be, whether or not he will actually return to Virat Kohli, is anyone’s guess. I wouldn’t be surprised if he objects to doing that.”
Meanwhile, former England captain Michael Vaughan said Jasprit Bumrah should take over as India’s captain, while highlighting the team’s performance under the pacer. He also noted that had Jasprit Bumrah not been injured, India would have won the Sydney Test and saved the BGT 2024-25 against Australia.
Michael Vaughan backs Jasprit Bumrah for India’s Test captaincy
Michael Vaughan said on the same podcast: “I think you’re right. I would give the captaincy to Jasprit Bumrah and that is because India’s two best performances in Australia were Perth and SCG. And if he wasn’t injured, honestly, they would have won that game.”
Even Vaughan backed Shubman Gill as a potential vice-captain for the much-anticipated Test series. But the Englishman offered Gill to improve his numbers first in the longest format of the game. He said, “I would have picked someone like Shubman Gill as vice-captain, but with an average of over 45, I think he has game.”
