Former Australian cricketer Michael Clarke shared his views on who he believes holds the title of the best fast bowler across all three formats of the game. In a recent chat, Clarke spoke about what makes a fast bowler stand out, especially when playing in different formats like Test cricket, One Day Internationals (ODIs) and T20Is.
Michael Clarke picks the best fast bowler across formats
Clarke named India after displaying a string of fast bowling displays jasprit bumrah as the best fast bowler he has seen in all formats. Clarke praised Bumrah’s ability to perform consistently well in all conditions, which he felt set him apart from other great fast bowlers.
The former Australian captain further explained that Bumrah’s remarkable versatility in different conditions and formats and his ability to win matches has set him apart. Clarke highlighted that Bumrah’s prowess across formats – be it his lethal yorkers in T20s or his ability to bowl long spells in Tests – makes him a freak of nature.
“What I think about Bumrah after the series is over and I sit down and think about his performances, I think he is the best fast bowler ever in all three formats.” Clarke spoke to ESPN’s Around The Wicket.

Clark reflects on the greats of the past
Clarke acknowledged the great influence of legendary fast bowlers from past eras, citing the likes of Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath. However, he pointed out that these legends don’t get a chance to play T20 cricket, which is a vital part of the game today. While their contributions are immense, Clarke believes Bumrah’s ability to excel in all three formats sets him apart.
“I know a lot of great fast bowlers, Kurtley Ambrose, Glenn McGrath haven’t been able to play T20 cricket, so I’m not talking about those guys, but as far as anyone who has played in all three formats, I think he could be the best. He’s actually that good in any situation, that’s what makes him great; Any setting, any format, this guy is a freak.” Clarke added.
