The West Indies Women’s National Cricket Team has announced its squad for the tournament Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Of particular note was the addition of Deandra Dottin to the team for the tournament. This comes after he announced his retirement two years ago.
Deandra Dottin, who holds the record for the fastest century in women’s T20Is, surprised many when she decided to retire during the 2022 Commonwealth Games. He said the “unacceptable” environment in the West Indies was behind his decision.
Since then he has been playing in T20 leagues and scoring consistently. Deandra then made a U-turn in a dramatic turn of events and reversed her decision to retire last month, following the upcoming World Cup being moved from Bangladesh to the UAE.
When he announced his decision to retire, Cricket West Indies included him in the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024. The governing body has named a 15-strong squad for the tournament. The team will be captained by Hayley Matthews and the team has no player in Nerissa Crafton.
Deandra was last seen in action at WCPL 2024. He finished the league stage as the leading run-getter with 113 runs at an average of 28.25 and a strike-rate of 111.88 in four innings. He was also the only batsman this WCPL season to hit more than two sixes to take his team to the final.
Dottin played an important role for his team in the final of the tournament. Guyana scored 53 off 38 balls against the Amazon Warriors as the game reached a super over at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy. In the Super, he scored an unbeaten 13 off four balls as Trinbago Knight Riders won the tournament.

West Indians excited to see Deandra Dotty back – Kishore Shallow, CWI President
Speaking about the squad for the Women’s T20 World 2024, CWI President Kishore Shallow said that they have a combination of youth and experience in the team. Deep talked about the inclusion of Deandra Dottin and said the West Indians will be excited to see him back. Shallow processed:
“We’ve got a nice mix of experience and youth. We’ve got 19-year-olds; I think Zaida (James) is probably still a teenager and one or two younger players in there. So I’m really happy with the mix.
“Also, I think we as West Indians are all excited to have Deandra Dottin back. It’s been a year of communication with Deandra – back and forth – and I especially want to recognize Ann Browne-John’s involvement. Over the past year, these conversations, even though he wasn’t officially a voter, he was an integral part of Deandra coming out of retirement,” he said.
