Gautam Gambhir hits out at ‘soft’ Sam Constas after Andrew Macdonald accused India of ‘scaring’ the youngster.

India’s national cricket team coach Gautam Gambhir has hit back at Australia’s national cricket team coach Andrew Macdonald after he made “intimidating India” comments. He also shared his verdict on the battle between Virat Kohli and Sam Constas.

The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 was undoubtedly one of the best series in the longest format of the game. Not only was the competition high between bat and ball, it also saw Indian and Australian players engage in heated moments.

Andrew McDonald calls Sam Konstas’ celebration in India “intimidating”.

One of the best moments came when Sam Constas got into a fight with Jasprit Bumrah in the final over of Day 1. He was bowling to fast bowler Usman Khawaja and was a young Australian non-striker. He went to the Indian captain and then approached him and said some words.

A ball later, Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja and it was the celebration of the Indian National Cricket Team that caught the attention of many. The entire team went for Sam Constas and celebrated wildly around him as the Indian team ended the day on a high.

After that, the head coach of the Australian National Cricket Team, Andrew Macdonald, spoke about the celebration of the Indian team. He said it was scary that the Indian National Cricket Team would go to Sam Constas.

He had no right to speak to Jasprit Bumrah while giving time to Usman Khawaja – Gautam Gambhir on Sam Constas

Gautam Gambhir, while replying to Andrew McDonald, said there is nothing intimidating about it. He also lashed out at Sam Constas and said that the young batsman has nothing to do with Jasprit Bumrah. Giving a statement to journalists, he explained them as follows:

“Look, it’s a tough sport played by tough men. You can’t be that soft. It’s as simple as that. I don’t think there’s anything scary about it.

“I think it’s just… when Usman Khawaja took time out, he had no right to talk to Jasprit Bumrah. He had no right to deal with Jasprit Bumrah. That was the umpire’s job. It’s probably the guy who bats at the end,” Gautam Gambhir said.

I think everything that happens is history – Gautam Gambhir in battle with Virat Kohli and Sam Constas

Gautam Gambhir also spoke about the battle between Virat Kohli and Sam Constas during the MCG Test. He said the sport was played by tough men and there was nothing wrong with that because Australian players had done the same in the past. He elaborated:

“I think what happened is history. And what happened, happened. And like I said, it’s a tough sport played by tough men. And things like that happen. I don’t think there’s any need to make a big deal about it. It’s not just happening in this town.

“It’s happened in the past. A lot of Australian players have done it. A lot of Australian players have done it in the past. So I think we continue to have big problems with these things.”
