The Lonely Breed, by Ron Clark and Norm Harris

One of my favorite books of all time, The Lonely Breed is a collection of short stories by Ron Clarke about the most admired people.

The story that makes me cry every time I read it is that of Jim Hogan, the only Irishman to win a European marathon.

championships. I met Jim around 2006 and enjoyed some great sessions with Jim by David Bedford and Ian Stewart.

Jim died in 2015. History is priceless.

We really love this book.

John Tracy is one of the greats, a great cross-country runner and a tenacious, insane distance runner (Moscow 1980, Los Angeles 1984, Seoul 1988, Barcelona 1992).I remember meeting him one year at the Boston Marathon.
