Liverpool have reportedly agreed a new contract with the star defender and the club captain, Virgil van Dijk and it could be made official in the coming days.

The Reds have been concerned that Van Dijk is in the final months of his contract, along with other star names Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah.

Earlier today, there was a report of files about Salah agrees new deal with Liverpooland now another report from files also claims that Van Dijk’s new contract should be made official very soon.

Liverpool wants to transfer the winger but wants to join Barcelona!

Van Dijk remains a very important player and leader in this Liverpool team, so Arne Slot will no doubt be happy to keep the 33-year-old.

Van Dijk joined LFC from Southampton in January 2018 and has proven to be one of the club’s biggest signings of the past decade.

Along with other major signings under previous manager Jurgen Klopp, including Salah, Alisson and Sadio Mane, Van Dijk has become a true stalwart at Anfield.

Slot now benefits from having the likes of Van Dijk still in his Liverpool squad, so it makes sense that the club have worked to seemingly fix this deal.

Liverpool would surely have found themselves in a very difficult situation if they had to replace Van Dijk, as it would not be easy to find another player with such quality and leadership.

The Netherlands international shows no signs of slowing down with age, so he can surely continue to play a key role for the Merseyside giants for many years to come.

Van Dijk could look at someone like Thiago Silva, who has been able to continue playing at the highest level well into his 30s.
