The Philadelphia Phillies won the National League East for the third consecutive season in 2024 with a 95-67 record.
Although the Phillies lost the National League Division Series, the division title can be seen as a successful season, even if they wanted to make a deeper postseason run.
The Phillies have been relatively quiet in the offseason, but they completed a deal with the Miami Marlins on Sunday.
According to MLB’s “X,” the Phillies have acquired left-handed starter Jesus Luzardo from the Marlins in exchange for shortstop Starlin Caba and outfielder Emaarion Boyd.

This trade could be a significant boost to the Phillies’ rotation

While some fans didn’t like the trade, most of the reaction seemed positive and that Luzardo would be a boost to the Phillies’ starting rotation next season.
Luzardo is 27 and entered the league in 2019 with the Oakland Athletics, where he played through 2021 before heading to the Marlins.
After battling some injuries in 2024, Luzardo started 12 games for the Marlins and posted a 3-6 record with a 5.00 ERA and 58 strikeouts in 66.2 innings.
Injuries may have affected Luzardo in 2024, but his 2023 season was even more impressive when he was fully healthy.
Luzardo started 32 games for the Marlins in 2023 and posted a 10-10 record with a 3.58 ERA and 208 strikeouts in 178.1 innings.
The Phillies will hope to keep Lucardo healthy in 2025 so he can help their starting rotation, especially in the postseason.
Luzardo and the Phillies will be looking for their first title since 2008.
