Jonathan Johnson has explained what’s really going on with Kylian Mbappé and his ongoing dispute with Paris Saint-Germain, even after he left the club on a free transfer to Real Madrid this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Caught offside for his Daily Briefing column, Johnson made it clear that this issue between Mbappé and PSG goes way back, as it relates to an apparent difference of opinion over an agreement that was reached between the player and his former club early last year. season
The France international could take legal action against PSG over the money he is still owed, but Johnson has explained why the Ligue 1 giants are frustrated with their former star after he appeared to acknowledge a deal in public just over a year
Mbappé stayed at PSG for one more season after a rocky summer in 2023, and it seems he now maintains that dispute when it looked like it had been resolved once he was reinstated into Luis Enrique’s squad.

“There has been an interesting story evolving about him dispute between Kylian Mbappé and PSG about money and what may be a large amount of unpaid wages to Mbappé from his time at the Parc des Princes. This is actually not something new, it’s been brewing for a while,” Johnson said.
“I think PSG have made their position very clear on this issue, if we think back to the start of last season, when Mbappé didn’t have a pre-season, but then he was welcomed back into the team. This dispute essentially refers to when an agreement was deemed to have been reached that protected all parties over certain bonuses and fees that Mbappé had essentially agreed to waive in order for PSG to agree to reinstate him to the your template
“Is there a risk of this heating up? I think the longer it drags on, the more it could become a real headache for both PSG and Mbappé. PSG have been very clear whenever they have communicated this publicly, saying that talks are continuing. Discussions will continue to take place to reach an amicable conclusion and an agreement that is acceptable to all parties.
“But I think PSG are frustrated, because they think the deal at the time was clear, especially when Mbappé came out publicly and said there was an agreement. I think now it seems to be preventing PSG and Mbappé from moving properly from their time together. So I think it’s something we can expect to see clarified in the coming weeks or months, but I think time is starting to be of the essence now.”
