If you’ve had internet access in the last 24 hours, you know that Jontay Porter is away from the Toronto Raptors while the NBA investigates his gambling connections through its own statistics.
The story of what happened this month is crazy interesting, but we dug into what he’s been doing off the court to make ends meet, and it’s definitely just as good. Let’s work backwards and quickly cover it all.
2024
Before the Raptors’ game against the Clippers on Jan. 26, Sportsbooks projected Porter to have 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.5 made threes.
If you don’t know sports betting, this means that if you wanted to bet on Porter’s points that night, you would either pick “under,” which means you think he will score 5 points or less. , or “end”. — means you think he will score 6 or more points. The same essence applies to each of the other statistical categories. Now that we got that out of the way…
Porter played 4 minutes in that game before exiting what was reported to be a re-aggravated eye injury. He recorded one dram and 3 boards. He did not attempt a shot. Whatever it is. The friend played only 4 minutes; it’s not unheard of.
The next day, however, ESPN reports that DraftKings reported that the most money bettors last night bet on a 3-pointer by Porter (basically, a ton of money was bet and won on people betting that Porter wouldn’t make a 3 against the Clippers- against). Jan. 26 was also a busy night in the NBA. 16 teams played that night, including plenty of stars (Luca had a 73 that night and Buck had a 62) who generally attract the lion’s share of bettors’ interest.
Fast forward a bit to March 20th. The Raptors play the Kings, Porter is logging just 3 minutes and his stats are lower than the sports books predicted. the next day, for ESPNDraftKings reports that people who bet against Jontay Porter made more money than anyone who bet on basketball that night.
So now it’s happened twice. Red flags go up and a friend is on vacation.
A source from another sportsbook said ESPN: that people were trying to place bets of up to $20,000 on Porter.
By the way, if you put $100 on all of Porter’s bottoms to hit that night, you’ll turn your $100 into $1,400. If you throw in $80,000, you’ll walk away with $1,120,000.
